The Markovich Family visits Expo 98

In August of 1998 we decided to drive up from Seville to Lisbon and visit Expo 98. We decided to take Lenny and Alexandra since we had no where to leave them. We packed the Rover and left around 11:00 a.m. We arrived in Lisbon at about 8:00 p.m. We stayed in a town about 1/2 hour south of Lisbon in a 16th century mansion that only had 10 rooms. It was a treat in itself staying there. The next day we headed over to the Expo. We didnt plan on visiting the entire Expo but just went get a feel of it since both Esther and I have such great memories of Expo 92 in Seville.

This Expo is in a lower classification than the Seville Expo of 1992,which was a universal exposition. The Expo site was about 1/4 of the site in Seville. I like the fact that it was surrounded by water on one side. We were able to see a lot of the international pavilions and the Virtual Reality Pavilion. Strangely, there were no IMAX theaters at the Expo. Here are a few of the pictures from our trip and a couple quicktime movies. Enjoy!

Here is Elena. She did a great job behaving herself during the trip.

This is Alexandra at the hotel where we stayed. This is from the breakfast room, it overlooked this very nice lake.
This is Alexandra on the Expo 98 grounds. There was a very intersting collection of boats from the 15th century to the present.
